4. How I installed and ran Caddy:

From the Caddy Ubuntu/Debian apt repo

a. System environment:

Ubuntu 24.04 x86_64

b. Command:

systemd unit

c. Service/unit/compose file:

stock file from deb package

d. My complete Caddy config:

You shouldn’t rely on that, we plan on getting rid of it anyway. See proposal: remove `{add,remove}-package` and `upgrade` commands from core · Issue #7010 · caddyserver/caddy · GitHub

You should build Caddy with xcaddy instead. See Build from source — Caddy Documentation

The upgrade command and the download page on the caddyserver.com website are dead too.

Edit: xcaddy seems easy enough to use and works flawlessly (so far). I am comfortable moving away from caddy upgrade.

Does it work better now? We just upgraded our build server thanks to @elee1766’s help.

Can xcaddy please be included in the main debian repo then so we don’t have to add a second repo just for this tool? Or include it in the main caddy deb.
