Need help with an install error

  1. The problem I’m having:
    While attempting to install caddy v 2.7.6 at the 60% mark this message will appear in my command line
Job for caddy.service failed because the control process exited with error code.
See "systemctl status caddy.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

at which time the installation process appears to stop.

  1. Caddy version:
    The Caddy version I am using is version 2.7.6

4. How I installed and ran Caddy:

I made use of the installation instructions as outlined here:

a. System environment:
The system environment used was Canonical Ubuntu 20.04 image within an Oracle Cloud Free Tier server with VM.Standard.E2.1.Micro as the shape for that server.

b. Command:
I haven’t done this yet.

c. Service/unit/compose file:
It comes with systemd, I imagine this is so it can automatically start up upon successful and smooth installation.

d. My complete Caddy config:
I have not set up a Caddy config yet.

Looks like your Caddyfile is missing. Installing should have created a default one. But you can simply create one then restart the service.

Ok, I have created my own caddyfile as suggested but when I attempt to use the

sudo systemctl reload caddy

as per the instructions here:

the following message outputs:

caddy.service is not active, cannot reload.

Would you have any idea as to what is happening here?

Actually, I just used the

sudo systemctl restart caddy

command and upon checking the status of caddy with the following

systemctl status caddy

was met with the following output

so it would appear that your advice has helped, although it is unrelated to the problem that was solved here I might update here if I have any further problems with what I am trying to do with my Caddy (I want to create a reverse proxy for HTTPS using Caddy)
