Interest in Contributing Korean Translation - Student Seeking Guidance

Hello Caddy Community! :waving_hand:

Introduction

I’m a computer science student from South Korea who recently discovered Caddy and was amazed by its automatic HTTPS features. I’ve been learning web development and since discovering Caddy, I’ve started using it in several of my toy projects - mainly as a reverse proxy for my API servers. The ease of setup and automatic HTTPS has made my development process so much smoother!

My Situation

  • I’m still a student learning web development
  • I have no experience with translation projects, but I’m eager to learn
  • I notice that many of my Korean classmates and developer friends are interested in Caddy but struggle with English documentation
  • I’d love to help make Caddy more accessible to Korean students and developers

What I’m Thinking

I was wondering if there might be opportunities for someone like me to contribute to Korean translation efforts, even as a beginner. I understand this is a big responsibility and I have a lot to learn.

My Questions:

  1. Are there existing Korean translation efforts I could learn from or contribute to?
  2. What would be a good way for a student to start contributing to documentation translation?
  3. Are there mentorship opportunities or guidelines for new translators?
  4. Would small contributions be welcome while I learn the process?

My Goal

I’d love to start small - maybe translating a single tutorial or helping with terminology research. I believe even small contributions could help Korean students like myself access Caddy more easily.

I know I have a lot to learn about technical translation, but I’m committed to learning the right way and following community standards.

Would anyone be willing to guide a motivated student who wants to help with Korean documentation?

I’m not looking to lead anything major - just hoping to contribute and learn! Any advice on where to start would be incredibly appreciated.

Thanks for your interest in contributing.

I would love to make Caddy more accessible to the world’s population. Currently, our site is pretty basic and doesn’t really support different translations. We’d probably have to start there. The alternative is to make a copy of the site and host your own version in Korean on another domain.

Side note: how are automated translations these days? Are they still terrible?
